I had never heard of "Tabata" before, but I have found success in the simple strategy of changing up your speed and intervals when running. It keeps you from getting bored/burnt out, because you're constantly anticipating your next change in pace...

Great idea!

I do something on the Treadmill called 'Tabata'and I love it! It takes the boredom out of just running and also increases your endurance and speed amazingly!! I warm up for 5 minutes, then I 'increase' the speed until I'm running at a very brisk pace and go at that pace for 20 seconds then I step off onto the side bars and 'rest' for 10 seconds then back on for 20 seconds. You can do this for as long as you like. You can do Tabata outside as well, warm up for 5 minutes walking and then for 20 seconds, run as fast as you can then walk for 10 seconds, etc.

I just LOVE the info I have gotten so far from Jon and Hal as well as from my fellow masterminds. Anyway, My exercise that I want to take to the next level, and Jon might like this, is my running! I want to add 1/2 mile to my run from now till our next call every week, whether it be outside or on my treadmill. Jon, and anyone else for that matter want to give me any tips to keep me motivated, that would greatly appreciated. Anyway I am excited as always to learn more but saddened that there is only 2 more months of the calls. They have been so fun and the people on them have become friends. Anyway it is getting late here so I will sign off. Bye 4 now!

Rugby is tough, but best of wishes to you. one of my managers actually plays rugby! After a couple months of that you will be able to run to St. Louis (maybe set that as a goal) like you told me before the call! LOL

Hey Hal,
I want to give you the response you requested to what I'm doing to take my exercise to the next level. it is actually the same thing I mentioned on tonight's call. What I've already been doing for nearly a year now is working out in the gym, which includes sprinting and working on my body mechanics, and also lifting weights.
This summer I had to tone back my exercise to just exercising once per week, and the intensity level went down to avoid injury while I was working a lot and not sleeping as much as normal.
Now that things are back to normal, I am exercising with my trainer twice per week again. To take it to the next level, I am joining a local kickball team. This has the social benefit of being a team activity, and will also get me outdoors and on an actual field.
This spring I will be joining a rugby team, which is my athletic passion and the primary reason that I am training in the gym now.
Hope that helps!
Living inspired,
Jon Godwin
